Freelance Whales came to me by my friend Tom.  He writes about life, family and music over at Edit Before Posting.  They've been in heavy rotation all year, and this album ranks so highly because for me, there wasn't a weak track on the album.

This is a multi-instrumentalist indie folk rock band with a Queens edge.  That's really the only way I can describe it.

Songs like "Generator ^ Second Floor" were excellent on their own, but even greater when combined with a well thought out video.  Check it out here:


Other songs like "Hannah", "We Could Be Friends" and "Location" are great in their own right, but do a really good job of conveying the subdued upbeat nature of Freelance Whales.

The album closer jumped at me after the 3rd or 4th listen to the album. It was on repeat for the rest of that week. It's so melodic and flowing. It's a song that carries you along. Check out a video of them playing "The Great Estates" in the Bedford subway station here:
